Post Women of Color Zine Symposium

The WOCZS was pretty rad. Got to meet a few new zinesters and catch up with some others I hadn't seen in awhile. Picked up a few zines. Here's my zine booty.

Also saw Rose Bent, a three girl hip-hop group, perform. That was a lot of fun!! I am going to send a video of them to my nieces, hopefully inspiring them to pursue something like this. I can picture them all getting together and making songs and choreographing some smooth dances. They have already done a few presentations on their own where they write out a script and have drawings and such. They are pretty creative!!  I have a box FULL of drawings and more that they have sent me.

I also picked up "A Tiny Zine About Making Tiny Zines."  It shows how to take one piece of paper and fold it in a way to make a lil eight page zine. Also, hoping this will get my nieces to start writing and expressing themselves. I'll spread them around P-Town if they send me anything. Woot! Spread the Love!!

UPDATED: My buddies, Kristin and Katie brought up a good point. While Rose Bent did have a lot of energy and really nice voices, most of their songs were about needing a man or breaking up with a man and not too empowering or even about other interesting things in this diverse and amazing world. I think I was more caught up thinking about getting my nieces to write songs and perform. 8)

I haven't read my zines yet. I'll be sure to post something on them as well once I get into them.
