An Exercise in Simplicity
A small side-project that I am working on is a new semi-biographical webcomic, written by Jon Hallman and drawn by me, about our adventures in our new house. I wanted this to be an exercise for me to let go of the details and work on quickly busting something out, getting the point across involving as little time as possible. Well, like I said it is an exercise. My buddy, Katie, pointed out that the pages were NOT that simple. D'oh! My brain just doesn't think that way!! I have been penciling about 2 pages a day which is the speed I pencil full on comic pages. I think I am going to have to simplify my pencils down to basic shapes and outlines and do most of my drawing when I ink it in brush. I am also really going to have to work at letting go of details. My brain loves them!! I am doing the lettering now, which can also be time consuming. I want to keep an old school feel to it and I want the text to be on the original art so I am hand lettering the pages. To also help keep the time down I am forgoing ruling out lines. Bam! We should be posting pages next month. Woot! Gravenstein Keep!!!
