Sketching While Watching the Seeker
I was going to watch an episode of Legend of the Seeker before I started drawing for the night, but ended up drawing these heads while sitting there. I guess it's a good thing when I draw even when I am just trying to rest. The human mind is such a crazy and interesting thing. 8)
Wake Up
This is my submission to Stumptown Underground, a cool local zine. I heard about it from lovemotionstory on Twitter. I checked out a copy and liked what I saw, a diverse assortment of creative types all contributing to a common theme. January's theme is sleep. I wanted to go back to my roots and start working with some other themes that I have been thinking about lately. Too many people are asleep as it is. We need to wake up!!

Morning Sketches
When I get up in the morning I like to do some quick sketches to get the drawing juices flowing, to renew those motor memories, to get in the groove. After some heads and some quick poses I drew this Wolverine, but I have to quit before I get too caught up. I have too many projects to work on. Off to work!!

Character Sketches
Been working on some character sketches of the characters from Stark St. I've been reworking them after reading up on some structure tips by Andrew Loomis. If you are interested in drawing you should definitely look up his books. They are public domain so you can go here to download them. Very helpful. I still need to work on drawing heads at angles. Here are head shots of the girl, the boy, the old man and the stripper. Just touching up the pages a bit. Nearly done. Going to start lettering and inking soon. Going to be fun!!

New Directions
I've decided to redirect my efforts. After six submissions to Marvel, three positive responses and being passed around to the editors, and three no responses I am going to start focusing on my own comics and do some more painting.
Having made it through the first few steps into Marvel I am hoping my art is adequate enough to make a successful comic on my own. I am working on a comic set in Portland that is going to be a collection of eight page stories. This started out as filler between Marvel submissions, but I really like the stories that my buddy, Scott, is sending me. I am looking forward to producing this comic. I think it will have a good character driven appeal. He really has a good grasp on characters and storytelling. I'm hoping to have a few issues done for Stumptown Comic Festival, the local Portland indy comics convention. I'm planning on setting up a both and getting some good feedback. Woot!!
I am also working on my own comic. I am still working on the overall plot, but really like where it is going. I'm also looking forward to experimenting with painting it in my own style the way I have done most of my paintings in the past. really get in there and playing around with collage, stencils, abstract backgrounds and tweeking the characters. It's gonna be a fun ride!!
And I also want to get back into painting. I am going to do a few paintings for the Seattle Erotic Art Show and try to get a gallery showing this coming year. I really miss painting which I have neglected while trying to draw typical pages for Marvel. I want to start submitting to the tons of collaborative shows around P-Town. Start getting my name and my work out there. Sometimes the social aspects of the art world can freak me out, but I need to step up and quit hiding in the shadows.
I think overall this will be best. If I quit focusing on Marvel and just make some good art there is no telling where it will go. I will make a new portfolio to take to Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con this coming year and talk to CB, the talent scout for Marvel, again. Hopefully then I will be able to understand why I didn't get any responses from my latest submissions and improve. Also my style will be more in tune with what I want to do and not the narrow idea I have had regarding Marvel. I really want to do more on my comic pages than a basic pencil drawing. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of this new direction. Art is Awesome!!
